Focal Point Gallery is an essential resource for local schools and the education sector through its engagement with contemporary art and its exploration of ideas and artistic processes.
Focal Point Gallery offers a variety of strategies for working with schools, including partnership working on projects, school visits to the gallery and packs to be used in the classroom. Projects led by Focal Point Gallery’s Learning and Engagement Curator and its artist-tutors aim to broaden pupils’ understanding of what can constitute an artwork or exhibition, and to encourage pupil collaboration. In these sessions, children can try out new skills, explore new materials, and develop their critical abilities in an encouraging and open atmosphere.
Focal Point Gallery’s participation with schools reaches a wide range of young people, teachers and support staff in Southend-on-Sea and south Essex, as well as offering opportunities for artists to develop their professional profile and experience.
