'Curtain for Focal Point'
'Seating for Focal Point'
'Three-part Screen for Focal Point'
As part of a series of artist commissions launched to coincide with the opening of the new Focal Point Gallery in autumn 2013, Marc Camille Chaimowicz has been asked to design a bespoke, movable seating arrangement for the entrance space, as well as a unique fabric pattern, which will be used as a blackout curtain to cover the exterior windows of Gallery Two.
Using distinctive colours and illustrated designs, the project will build on the artist’s solo exhibition at Focal Point Gallery, ‘Jean Genet… The Courtesy of Objects, Chapter Three, featuring Dan Fox’ in 2012, by using functional artworks to transform the gallery space into a seductive and politicised domestic interior.
Born in Paris 1947, Chaimowicz lives and works in London, and has exhibited at institutions such as Focal Point Gallery, Southend-on-Sea (2012), De Appel, Amsterdam (2008), FRAC, Bourdeaux (2008), Kunstverein Düsseldorf, Düsseldorf (2005), Norwich Gallery, Norwich (2004) and Ikon Gallery, Birmingham (2002).
