Opportunities

Throughout the course of our public programme, Focal Point Gallery offer volunteer opportunities to undertake experience in the support of multiple activities that are central to the functioning of the gallery. These include events, workshops, offsite projects and numerous other activities.

We are currently looking for volunteers to support the opening of our forthcoming exhibition 'Maximum Overdrive', Saturday 20th May. Volunteers are required to be available from 4.00 to 8.00pm.

Digital Learning Project Coordinator, Schools

Project dates: Phase I, September 2017 to July 2018 (30 days per year)

Digital Learning Project Coordinator at Focal Point Gallery Focal Point Gallery is looking for a highly motivated individual to support The Learning and Engagement Curator in delivering Focal Point Gallery’s digital learning programme to children and families in areas of socio-economic challenges. National charity Children and the Arts and Royal Opera House Bridge have co-invested in ‘Start’, enabling Focal Point Gallery to run a digital learning programme in the borough of Southend-on-Sea and build new relationships with primary schools.

From September 2017 to July 2020, Focal Point Gallery will host a series of artist-led workshops for children ages 8 to 11 years. Three schools will make up to six visits each per year, referencing FPG’s exhibition and offsite programme. Considering

the philosophies and working methods of the artists as the starting point for inspiration, aspiration and discussion, practical sessions will combine hands-on, digital activities and public screenings. An annual event held at Focal Point Gallery, showing the children’s work on Big Screen Southend will celebrate the achievements and bring together families, schools, staff and pupils.

The Digital Learning Project Co-ordinator at Focal Gallery will be responsible for the development and scheduling of ‘Start’. The co-ordinator will be working with all staff, but predominantly Learning and Engagement Curator. The Digital Learning Project Co-ordinator will be based at the gallery for one day per week, 30 days per year, to coincide with the school timetable. Fee will be £90 per day. Focal Point Gallery is committed to making the role enjoyable and rewarding. We aim to provide the opportunity for the Digital Learning Project Co-ordinator to develop skills working in a gallery environment and with local schools.

Learning and Engagement Internship Application:

Learning and Engagement Internships at Focal Point Gallery Focal Point Gallery is looking for a highly motivated individual to support The Learning and Engagement Curator in delivering Focal Point Gallery’s learning programme and audience engagement strategy.

Focal Point Gallery’s Learning and Engagement Internship Programme is designed to provide training in the development and delivery of the Learning programme, along with audience engagement and FPG gallery procedures. The Intern will be working with all staff, but predominantly the Director and Learning and Engagement Curator.

The Intern will be based and trained at the gallery Wednesdays and Saturdays. The Intern position will be paid at a rate of £60.00

per day. The opportunity will provide an insight into the following: learning programme scheduling, planning and delivery of workshops, press and marketing, front of house, audience development, community relationship development, fundraising, and event management. In conversation with the Director and Learning and Engagement Curator, the Intern will also conduct curatorial research for the forthcoming learning programme. The Intern will be mainly based at the gallery’s reception area and act as the first point of contact for our visitors when the gallery is open.
